Trump! Clinton! Feel the Bern! Some can’t help but support their candidates both privately and publicly. Recently, Cheryl Rios, a marketing specialist, discovered the danger of talking politics online—she lost her largest clients.
But, I’m not writing today to get you to stop talking politics. I want you to talk politics—even online—but directed toward your elected officials. Next week, 80 industry professionals will travel to Washington, D.C., to talk with elected officials regarding industry-critical issues, as well as on the power, impact and job-generating value of promotional products.
As Paul Bellantone, president and CEO of Promotional Products Association International (PPAI), pointed out in his blog this week, Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines threaten the use of promotional products in safety campaigns. Talking politics with your local elected officials will help you communicate the effectiveness of well-designed safety programs among the many other good uses of promotional products.
While it is too late for you to join us for PPAI’s Legislative Education and Action Day (L.E.A.D.) this year, it is very easy to reach your local officials any time during the year.
